1. Waking up in the middle of having 27 stitches placed along my right ear after a neighbor’s dog bit me when I was really little.
2. My brother, Richard, carrying me home from the neighbor’s house after I stepped on a nail when I was five years old.
3. My daddy playing with my toes as a little girl.
4. Playing with my cousins in the creek behind the family house in New Mexico.
5. Waking up to and sitting down to a huge breakfast every weekend that my mom cooked for the family.
6. The phone call that came early one Sunday morning informing us our parents had been killed in an auto accident.
7. The night my friends and I accidently locked ourselves in a public restroom at a lake at 2 a.m. across the street from a police station – alcohol was a factor.
8. The very first paycheck I received after accepting a contract job that doubled my salary.
9. The day I signed the mortgage papers on my house (gulp).
10. The first time I had all of my friends and family over to my new house for food and fun.
11. The first time J put his hand on my leg at a bar over drinks with a coworker – and I knew he liked me.
12. The first time J told me he loved me.
13. The night J and I had our first real date with N, none of us knowing where it might lead.
